Embrace the past, while enjoying all of the modern creature comforts of home. From Victorian Fireplaces in most rooms to the hand cut original hardwood floors, harvested from trees right here on Twillingate island. Relax in our large foyer – once the doctor’s waiting room, or grab yourself a book and quilt and quietly curl up on the bench.
The indigenous people of the area enjoyed sole possession of the Twillingate area since the early 1700’s, and while the Notre Dame Bay Hospital opened in 1924, physicians were present in the area much before that point. This beautiful Victorian was built circa 1918 for Dr. Albert J. Wood and his family as they moved to the area.
The McClary Mfg. Co., is an institution which we think can be truthfully called one hundred per cent Canadian. This all cast iron Victorian beauty sits proudly in our dining room.
One wonderful aspect of older homes are all the quirks and unique features which have developed over the years. Many wealthy homeowners had a servant or servants that were employed in their home full-time and provided them with a living space of their own. Quite often, passages like the one seen in our home end up being removed throughout renovations over the years.
